This starts with a cornucopia of yellow fruit that is a delight to explore, then on the medium-bodied palate it leads into a complex labyrinth in which fruit, delicate bitterness, chalky minerality and spicy notes flicker back and forth. From two parcels that were planted in 1995 and 2010 on a very complex soil in which limestone, sandstone, granite and marl are mixed. From biodynamically grown grapes. Drink or hold.
From up to 25-year-old vines on complex soils, the 2022 Steingrubler Riesling offers an intense bouquet, though still slightly shy, combining flinty limestone aromas with spicy lemon, herbal and saphron notes. It shows intense and concentrated yellow fruit and grapefruit aromas and remarkable complexity. Bottled in late October 2023, this is a mineral, complex, powerful, very elegant and pure yet also rich and concentrated Riesling that reveals an enormously saline finish with fine tannins and rich substance. This is a great wine with long aging capacity for 2022. 13.5% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine in April 2024.
